Flooded roads to the Gorges.

We planned to spend two nights in the Dades & Todra Gorges, but our plans were foiled by the heavy rains and the resulting flooding and bridge damage (or destruction in some cases!) We drove about halfway up the Dades before the finalclogged road turned us back. The water wasn’t the problem, there was probably 2-3 feet of rock an dirt that had swept down the oued (wadi/ususally dry river bed) and across the road. Lots of vehicles trapped on the other side. (I love the picture of the dutch camper using his tiny shovel to try to dig a path for the water!!)

Found ourselves a lovely auberge overlooking what I believe they call the ‘Monkeys fingers’, very pretty rock formations (me on terrace looking at view). Then on the next day to the Todra Gorge. Drove to the 68ft wide entrance to the gorge, and the bridge in had been washed away. We were able to cross on foot and walk a ways up the gorge. Very beautiful, reminded us a lot of hte approach to Zion Nat’l Park. Lovely. Likewise, lots of campers & cars struck on the wrong side of the gorge. It was beautiful, there were lots of rock climbers to watch.
