Les Baux de Provence was a wonderful, clifftop fortress with terrific views over olive groves, the hills of Provence and the Camargue. The citadel, started in the 10th century, is impressive, huge and perched high on an outcropping of rock. It was a long, steep walk up and now lies mostly in ruins. It was very interesting to explore. We arrived just as a demonstration of defensive machines was starting (a bricole, I got to help and a trebuchet, Rich & Peter helped ). It was really fun to see them in action and learn how they function (and to help!!)
