Some days we get supplies from the local grocery store and eat lunch at Courtney’s appartment, but more often than not, we eat at one of the local cafes or ‘snack’s, as they’re called. The prices are so reasonable that I’m not sure you can eat much cheaper buying stuff at the store. A delicious tagine of chicken, onions & olives with crusty bread is 30DH ($3.75), a mini turkey, tomato and egg tagine with bread is only 16 DH ($2), a pizza is about 25DH ($3.10), the 2 salads (meals in themselves) were $3 and $3.50. (These prices are for very casual, lunchtime, ‘local’ sorts of places: think Geddys/Little Anthonys. Regular sit-down dinner type places (think McKays/Galyns) would be quite a bit more, but still way less than we’re all used to.)
The drink Amine has next to his pizza is quite a creation!!!! Blended juices are very popular here, similar to a smoothie, for ridiculously low prices. Amine had an avocado smoothie with milk, dried fruits (dates, figs, raisins), honey and they forgot the chocolate that was also supposed to be in it. It was quite amazing, thick and remarkable tasty (less than $2). I still need to try an avocado one at the school café. Maybe tomorrow (here’s a picture of the infamous “avocado juice”, interesting, avocado with milk & almond and a bit of sugar. Very different, very rich, probably 5000 calories in a glass!)
