The majority of Moroccan woman ‘wear the veil’, which I guess is the generic term for some level of covering of the head (and body). Many wear the scarf, pinned to completely cover their hair, ears and neck with what I will ignorantly call ‘western’ clothing or a beautiful, long caftan. Many wear a ‘veil’, a complete head covering, including their face from the nose down, showing their forehead and eyes, and long, flowing robes. Some others who are more ‘traditional’ wear what I’ve heard referred to on French news as the burqa, full body coverage, with just a slit in the front of the face section to see out (or even mesh to see through). (France is having a bit of a crisis about immigration & French national identity and is currently trying to outlaw wearing the burqa in public.) Many woman in Morocco do not wear any traditional cover at all, but I understand they are often pressured by other women to adhere to more the conservative traditions and ‘wear the veil’.
