It was very nice on our second night (staying in coastal town of Le Lavandou, where the weather was beautiful, but a bit chilly, certainly couldn't take advantage of the beaches outside our hotel window) to see people playing boules! It's a wonderful, traditional game, which all my students know about (the 5th & up anyway). It's played everywhere in France, but has its roots, I believe, in southern France and Provence. It's related to the Italian game of bocce, and is played in parks and regular boule pitches all over. I didn't dare get too close taking pictures!
