Molly’s plane was delayed a full day, so she and my M-I-L both flew in on the same day, but to airports in different directions! (Molly to Marseille, Beryl to Nice). So Peter and Hannah took the car to Marseille, dropping me first at a tiny train station, so I could take the train to Nice and spend the day there. Train travel is so civilized. It was a gorgeous day and Nice and the sea were beautiful. I spent quite a lot of time at the market (see next post!) and walked up to the top of what I guess is a cliff or outcropping, to the site of an former chateau and cathedral. It was good defensively and gives wonderful views over the long, curving beaches of Nice. You can see by the colors (totally un photoshopped!) why this is called ‘La Cote d’Azur’ (the blue coast). The sea is a stunning blue, particularly on this cloudless day.
