Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou (sp)

On Hannah’s birthday we went to an amazing kasbah (after having a fabulous chicken tagine with preserved lemon on the terrace of a cafe!), riding donkeys across the swollen river to get there.  It’s called kasbah Ben Haddou (a kasbah is a palace of sorts, hundreds of them here in Morocco, many in ruins, many still lived in, some preserved , some newly built. Some are fortified. Quite amazing. Many movies have been at least partially filmed here, such as ‘Gladiator’ ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ and ‘Alexander’.  It was a gorgeous day, problably near 80. It was so fun to b able to wander wherever we wanted. Perfect time of year to be here, the busy season hasn’t started yet. Then on to Ouarzazate for the night, heavy rains fell!!!
